About ten years ago, George Morasci and his family were grilling for dinner and ran out of barbecue sauce for the meat. Rather than wasting gas to go pick a bottle up from the store, or eating the meat dry, their family decided that they would try making their own sauce. As thy began looking up the basic ingredients that go into barbecue sauce, they had the idea to write down the recipe thy would concoct, just in case they needed to tweak the recipe or use it again.
After throwing some ingredients together—a little spice, a little sweet, a touch of tang—the Monkey Sauce was born after a single attempt. As they were blown away with the flavor and taste the sauce owned, they decided to name it and have anyone they knew try it.
It was originally named after a nickname George received from his boss and co-workers and since he was the creator, it seemed to fit. Since then, the sauce has developed into quite a popular alternative to store-bought barbecue sauce and is requested by friends and family across North America. George’s family ended up adapting to a more fitting name of Five Monkeys Barbecue Sauce because of the five members of the family.
It is and continues to be truly a family-originated recipe and a labor of love as all are involved in the public launching of Five Monkeys Barbecue Sauce.
