Marquith Green, a BBQ maestro hailing from Brooklyn but raised in Lobeco, South Carolina, and lovingly nicknamed Roscoe, kicked off his smoky journey at just 15, hosting his first meaty fiesta in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. As the years rolled on, he fell head over heels for the art of slow-cooking meats. Settling down in Beaufort in 2004, Marquith and his brothers would bond over smoking meat, passing on their mouthwatering secrets of whole hog, pork ribs, and beef brisket.
After a stint in snowy New York, Marquith dabbled in weekend fairs and festivals, dipping his toes into the BBQ biz with Roscoe’s Lowcountry BBQ. But the call of South Carolina’s warmer climate pulled him back in 2014, where he unveiled Mother Smokin’ Good! Rolling down the road in a food truck with a built-in smoker, his motto “Follow the Smoke” became a smokin’ success. In 2021, his wife Danielle joined the flavor-packed venture, expanding the menu and catering.
The BBQ buzz caught the eye of James Beard award author Michael Twitty during a pit stop, sparking a social media frenzy. This led to a whirlwind of attention, including a feature in Travel & Leisure and a winning rib competition on Moonshiners: Smoke Ring. Fast forward to 2022, Marquith and Mother Smokin’ Good! graced the screens on Moe Cason’s World of Flavor show, serving up BBQ to the Marines on Parris Island. The BBQ brilliance continued in 2023, snagging the Rock-n-Ribs crown and a spotlight in Local Life magazine in 2024.
